16th April .

Dear Wystan,

Are you there?  May I come across for
a cuppa?  I shall be at Fridau over Easter
but am otherwise mostly in Vienna.

Was very dashed at missing you when I
got back here at the beginning of September
and found you'd gone.

Love

Stella

The date range has been delimited on the basis of research into the mention of "Easter" in relation to the indicated date of "16th April": 1962 is the first year in the Auden-Musulin correspondence in which the Easter weekend follows after the date of composition. Auden did not usually keep his acquaintances' correspondence (Colburn, Nadia Herman. "Bibliographic Essay and Review of Auden Studies." The Cambridge Companion to W. H. Auden, edited by Stan Smith, Cambridge UP, 2004 pp. 240-246, 240); the presence of this letter (the sole letter by Stella Musulin kept by Auden) among his papers might suggest a date of composition toward the end of Auden's life.
